So do appellate briefs!

Appellate briefs are horribly long and not even close to fun papers. We're given a hypothetical result at trial, and an issue for appeal. Then we have to write a paper explaining why the result at trial was wrong (if you're the appellant's lawyer) or why the result at trial was right (if you're the appellee's lawyer).

But of course, to make it extra fun, the issue for appeal is not settled law. Courts all over the country have different laws relating to this issue. So then we have to explain why a certain approach to this issue which is currently being used in another jurisdiction is the best one to adopt. This best one to adopt is, of course, favorable to our client.
