water mains are NOT important

There was mud, yes, mud flowing from my kitchen faucet this morning. Ummm? I am going to guess there is a problem. A gander out the window shows that the landlord is outside. I am off in desperate persuit. The verdict: water main break...hoard all the water you can in the next 10 minutes so they can find the leak, it will be on this evening. Wait. So I should draw a bath of mud from the faucets that give off water similar to a light mist. Needless to say, I didn't participate in that activity. Or in drawing buckets of water to dump down the toilet, sorry Johnny, your neurosi will have to live with that one.
All made plans that may include water have been cancelled until further notice: cooking, cleaning, showering, laundry...all in good fun.
Another question. How does a water main break in November? All theories are not holding up including cold weather (it's not cold yet), car accident (nope, underground), tree roots (do trees grow in November, I think not!)
I chalk this one up the decaying infrastructure of Duluth water and sewer systems. Sweet!
